‘Gum Park Vineyard’ is part of the Gum Park pastoral property owned by husband and wife partners John Southgate and Dee Nolan, originally established over 100 years ago by Dee Nolan’s grandfather. The vineyard is professionally managed by regional viticulturist Joe McInnes of McInnes Viticultural Management (MVM).

Originally planted on 10 Ha* in 1999, the vineyard was extended in 2001 to 40.7 Ha* of vines, expertly positioned on an elevated site to enable prevailing breezes to sustain excellent vine health. This in combination with good soil profiles, reliable rainfall, quality underground water with low salinity levels (800ppm) ensures the vineyard produces first class grapes year after year.

Initial plantings were of Cabernet Sauvignon 5 Ha* and Merlot 5 Ha* on own roots, with subsequent plantings of Chardonnay 20.5 Ha* taking place in 2001 on rootstock. In 2006, 4.1 Ha* of Chardonnay were grafted successfully to Sauvignon Blanc and in 2007 a further 4.1 Ha* were successfully grafted to Pinot Noir. In 2013 the 5 Ha* of Merlot were grafted to Cabernet Sauvignon.

The property incorporates a substantial water licence plus structural improvements including a chemical/spray shed, overhead water tank and concrete fill area – in addition to a three-phase power supply.
